Career Pathways
The cost of a college education is very expensive. One out of ten students graduate college with a degree in their original path of study. Allowing students to follow a career pathway during high school gives students the opportunity to explore careers and helps students make more informed decisions when making a career choice. A career pathway is just that—a journey, rather than a single one-time decision. Students are more motivated when they see that what they are learning is helping them reach their post-graduate goals
Starting in the year of 2016-2017 current 9th grade students and students entering the high school will meet with their counselor and select a career pathway to follow throughout high school, allowing their high school course choices to be intentionally directed toward their post-graduate plan. Students are encouraged to complete their pathway as part of their four-year course plans to be able to fully experience the learning within that interest. We believe it is just as important to realize what you are not interested in as it is to find out what you ARE interested in!
Career Pathways are aligned to the interest of our students and the needs of the workforce in NWI as well as the state. Developed in conjunction with the state and employers in the area many of our students will have the ability to earn career certifications or dual college credit. These options in high school will prepare students for what comes after high school.
